Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back

This was the second installment of the Star Wars trilogy by George Lucas, one he described on a number of occasions as a Spaghetti Western set in the outer space. The Empire Strikes back during its time was perhaps the most anticipated movie following the tremendous success of the first film of the series.

Directed by Irvin Kershner, this 1980 sci-fi epic is certainly the most morally and psychologically complicated film of the whole original trilogy. On the plot level, the film continues the story of the Rebel Forces consisting of young adventurer Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), the rogue pilot Han Solo (Harrison Ford), and the beautiful Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) after the destruction of the Evil Empire's Death Star. This film witnesses the emergence of the deadly Lord Darth Vader and the series of clashes with the rebels with aid from the Force.

Described by any as the greatest space opera, The Empire Strikes Back scored on several technical departments especially visual effects which have been described as unprecedented at the time of release, sound recording and designing and finally the musical score by John Williams. The score was performed by the London Symphony Orchestra against a fee of $250,000, which was another of many records set by the film during its time. As far as the cast and acting are concerned, every delivers convincing performance though special mention must be made of James Earl Jones’s voice that truly made Lord Darth Vader terrifying.
