The Dark Knight

Christopher Nolan’s 2008 venture “the dark Knight” is a rarity in every sense of the term. It is a superhero movie that is certainly not meant for the kids. In fact, instead of categorizing it as a superhero flick, it would be wiser to describe the film as a critical social commentary featuring a particular superhero.

Right from his days of the cult classic “Memento”, Nolan has been universally accepted as the undisputed maestro of manipulating the dark and evil tendencies lurking within the human mind. The Dark Knight witnesses a pinnacle in this regard where he successfully finds a repository of pure evil personified in “The Joker” played with an almost malicious flair by Heath Ledger, which earned him a posthumous Oscar. In its own merit, it is not an easy fit in the presence of a cast comprising of Christian Bale, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman and Aaron Ekhart.

The film scores highly in every possible department though one has to probably admit to the fact that the cinematography finally proves to be THE trump card in the film. The extremely fluid editing pattern that makes the 152 pass the audience by at a speed faster than the bat mobile also deserves applause. However despite Nolan or Christian Bale or Heath Ledger or the ensemble cast or the meticulous technicalities, the 20 minutes of footage shot with IMAX cameras, is the element that finally emerges as the real super hero in the entire film.
