The third installment of Peter Jackson’s ambitious project of the adaptations of Tolkien’s masterpiece is a lifetime visual treat for a movie buff. The plot which gets quite complicated in structuring continues with the saga of middle earth following the adventures of Frodo and Sam on their way to Mordor, Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli in search of their friends and finally Gandalf reunited with Merry and Pippin trying to buy time for Frodo and Sam by raising an army at Minas Tirith, all leading to a climatic battle at the Black gates with Sauron’s army. If there was any spot ever for a technically flawless film, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King would certainly find itself there. The film excels in every department including acting performances, cinematography, sound designing, editing, costume and make up. Special mention must be made of composer Howard Shore’s epic sounding operatic soundtrack which really gave the breathtaking visuals a different dimension altogether. The editing style, especially for the battle scenes can also walk into Cinema’s hall of fame any day of the year. |
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King is a BIG movie in every sense of the word. Starting from its budget to run time, an ensemble cast, locations, special effects, sound to finally 11 Academy Awards to warp it up nicely, phrases like larger-than-life or epic hardly serves the purpose of describing the film.
