Singin' in the Rain

The comedy musical film is a charming depiction of the transition of Hollywood from silent films to talkies. Despite a weak initial response, the film is considered as one of the best musicals ever made. The film was co-directed by Stanley Donen and acrobatic choreographer Gene Kelly. The film was appreciated for its story, cast, dance sequences and songs.

The film is an integrated musical in which the characters express their feelings as they live. Moments of high spirit or romance have been nicely covered with song and dance sequences instead of dialogues. Over a half of the film is covered by musical numbers. The film has a wonderful screenplay combined with fluid direction.

Singin’ in the Rain is a colorful witty film which parodies the apprehension around the transition of the dream factory of Hollywood from silent movies to talkies. The story is about silent film actor Don. His co star Lina mistakes their on-screen romance for real love. For their forthcoming musical film together, Kathy is brought in to dub Lina’s voice. While she dubs for Lina’s voice, Don falls in love with her. Then the film takes on with Lina’s jealousy for Kathy and the way she hinders Kathy’s progress and gets caught in the end.

The classic musical film is an all time favorite and is considered as the best musical in the American history. The film is pleasant to watch and hilarious to the core.
