The Wizard of Oz

The Wizard of Oz is a fantasy film and is one of the most-liked and most-watched films of all time. Based on a children’s novel, it has become the most cherished and loved by all and has grabbed several awards too. Its images, dialogues, characters and music have been indelibly remembered.

The story is about a Kansas farm girl Dorothy who is jaded by her neighborhood and dreams of a better place to live, so she plans to run away. Struck in a tornado, she is spirited off to a distant land in her dream where she meets magical characters from her neighborhood. In this unconscious dream state, she dreams of travelling down a Yellow brick road to the Land of Oz and is rewarded by the Wizard of Oz after the defeat of the Wicked Witch. Finally, Dorothy returns home.

Television showings made the film a national institution. The story is based on the book which was considered as the first American fantasy for children and the film successfully carries forward the legacy.

Judy Garland makes the character of Dorothy memorable with her brilliant performance. The supporting characters also stand out for their amazing work of art and will always be treasured. The song “Over the Rainbow” has been beautifully filmed and has been voted the greatest movie song of all time.

There is magnificent photography and art direction and all these cumulatively make the movie admirable and most revered.
