Wings Of Desire has many stunningly interesting perspectives and ideas, so if you watch it with an open mind, you’re sure to be mesmerized. It shows modernist and industrial, post-World War II constructed Berlin, showing the city as diverse and fascinating, and this is the perfect background for the film. The movie deals with life from an angel’s eyes, an angel who is tired of seeing the same characterless, colorless world day after day, and wants to become human after falling in love with a mortal. The movie gives you the realization that though angel’s lives may be idyllic, it’s the pain, the sorrows and the sadness that humans endure that makes them truly alive. Despite the movie being in black and white, it works beautifully with its monochrome tones, it’s emotionally as well as spiritually moving, much much better than the horrible remake City Of Angels. Wings Of Desire is a classic, and deals with the power of sacrifice for love. |
Much negative stuff has been written about Wings Of Desire, but the truth is that it is a very powerful film – many people tend to find it slow, but the movie is actually languid in its pacing. If you are looking for lots of action and car chases, as well as sex, then this is not the film for you. As a viewer, you get consistent third person view, which is rather unique. You feel as if you are on the outside of the happenings, looking in to all that is happening in the movie.
