Even till today, the film has some of the most dramatic and lush romantic scenes of film history, not to mention some amazing dance sequences which bring the film alive. The only drawback that many critics might hold against the film is the fact that the film tends to be a bit long winding considering the fact that the plot of the entire film is so utterly simple, though there are deeper meanings beneath the surface. It is the music, the décor and the dance sequences themselves that have made the film a classic and a must-watch. A story about a woman who is loved by two men offering her two different things, the film has a beautiful romantic appeal. One offers her a chance at her art and the other a chance to be loved as a woman. Moira Shearer plays the leading heroine and wonderfully accomplishes the role of the leading ballerina in the film as well. The choreography that she as well as the rest of the ballet crew follows is one of the most inventive in cinema. |
The Red Shoes is considered by many faithful to be the greatest film of all times, although surely it is one of the greatest musical or dance films surely. The film created at a period in time when multi-culturalism had not reached the proportions that it has reached today, it dealt with the importance of Art in human life and how Art can change human life as well.
