Back to the Future

This film was one of the first films on time travel that took the audience by storm. Directed by Robert Zemeckis and released in 1985, this was one of the first films that created a lot of noise with its story and plot. This was a film essentially on time travel and one of the first that delved into science-fiction and time travel. As we might think, back to the future needed three drafts and a couple of years for the producers to invest in the script. The script was done in 1981 but it took four years for the producers to put money on it.

Although it was one of the biggest releases in 1985 as it grossed about 400 million world wide, which was phenomenal. This was the first film of the Back to the Future series and this comedy science-fiction had the world laughing to the antics of sixteen year old Marty Mcfly who was accidentally sent back in time in 1955. As he went back to the 1955, he made sure that his mother fell in love with him and not his father although this helped to improve the relations between his parents in the actual time.

Although this was a science fiction, with a simple story line, an oedipal situation can be found at hand when he actually wants his mother to fall in love with him. Such a treatment was not common in American commercial cinema during this period so it was quite refreshing for people who had been bored by the typicality in American science fiction. Highly praised by Stanley Kubrick, this film was the most popular of the tri series and even today it stands as one of the most popular science fiction comedies in cinema.
