District 9

District 9 is a gritty faux documentary that takes place in South Africa which is about an alien mothership descended over Johannesburg 28 years ago and promptly broke down, stranding more than a million crustaceans like aliens on Earth. A huge spaceship comes to a sudden halt above Johannesburg, South Africa, stranding all its passengers on Earth. Though a lot of people will draw comparison the initial scenes unreel into a mocking documentary featuring interviews with human witnesses and television broadcast excerpts. With these feature Neil blomkamp’s directorial debut has made a dramatic entry onto the stage. He has upended expectations that had been lowered when it comes to sci-fi films remembering that human behavior is the most fascinating special effect of all, with the inexplicable motivations of alien creatures coming in a close second. It is infact the sci fi for the ages.

The last part of the film is full of amazing actions with great battle scenes and some of the best gun fights of the last several years. The cool factor explodes with alien weaprony, thousands of rounds of ammunition, and the mechanized fighting suit. A very impressive debut and the film sets a good example as to how to use original sci fi as a mirror of our own.
