The day the earth stood still

For those who truly understand it, this 1951 film was the perfect example of Americans in frenzy post- world wars fearing an invasion from the Soviet Union in the midst of the Cold War. The invasion of the aliens in the film is unmistakably symbols for the American fear of a Soviet invasion. Even though the film was a creation during an ear of Hollywood that was way before all the digitally mastered effects that horror and science fiction films are able to create, The day the earth stood still, is still able to give you Goosebumps! The plot of the film is actually quite intriguing. It is about how an alien lands on earth as a warning for the earthlings that if they do not stop fighting against each other he would have to destroy Earth altogether. The problem begins when nobody really takes him seriously and he has to assume the disguise of a human to try and figure out what the actual problem is.

The plot might seem simple and the special effects might seem tacky to you now, but as a film released in 1951, it has achieved greatness where the script and the plot is concerned. If you call yourself a Science fiction fan, you would be incomplete if you have not seen this film at least once, and the popular phrase “Klaatu Barato Nikto” , the phrase that the alien Klaatu says in order to stop his robot forces from destroying the earth.
