Even though the film was released as way back as 1971, if somebody watches it now he or she would feel that the film has been recently released, for A Clockwork Orange achieves one thing if not others that it is one of the most modern older films ever made. The main reason why such a statement can be made about the film is because the issues that the film deals with are issues that are still prevalent in today’s world and have not gone away yet. Believe it or not however, when the film was initially released it had gained the rating of an infamous ‘X’ and this is because of all the violence and the nudity in the film, though the rating has been revised to an ‘R’ now. The film is told in a city of England in the near future sometime. What the film portrays is the violent acts of ruffians and who are roaming the street; robbing, murdering, raping and terrorizing. On the other hand there is the rehabilitation plan that the government has come up with for the prisoners that they are about to release.
The film is at the same time repulsive in bits and intensely thought provoking in others. The legendary director Stanley Kubrik’s aim was to put forward questions in the audience’s mind; their support of the government’s procedures, the things that humanity is willing to give up for the sake of living in a society that would keep them safe. Partly an allegory, it is one of the finest of English dark dramas.
